ENTRIES / Chris Christensen

By Chris Christensen   August 20, 2010

I am a full-time travel blogger and podcaster. I left my job as the EVP of Engineering and Operations with a Silicon Valley company in January to focus on the Amateur Traveler (http://AmateurTraveler.com). The pay is not nearly as good and the hours are actually worse, but the view from the office some days is unbeatable.
I have some experience blogging and even podcasting from the road. I post a travel picture every day and a weekly audio podcast every week. I also do a try-bi-weekly video podcast (I try and do one every other week). I have captured the sounds of Geneva celebrating the Ecalade where they reenact a victory over the Savoy in the 1600s. I have written stories for newspapers like that of black water rafting through the Waitomo Caves in New Zealand (you wear a wet suit and helmet with a light and float down a subterranean river). I have shot video of a weaver in Oaxaca who still makes natural dyes from grinding the cochineal (an insect found on the prickly pear cactus). I have blogged about shopping the night markets of Hong Kong.
I have had some success with the Amateur Traveler. The Chicago Sun Times included the show in their list of 10 “Best travel sites”. Men’s Journal says the Amateur Traveler is “One of the 4 best adventure travel podcasts”. Best Life Magazine named the Amateur Traveler one of the 10 best podcasts on the internet. The Amateur Traveler was the popular vote winner for a Lonely Planet Blog Award 2009 in the Podcasting category.
If you are looking for someone to tell the stories from one of these travel adventures, I might be your guy.
